New and Upcoming Music I’m Excited About….and You May Be Too

As we settle into 2020, there are a number of new and upcoming albums, in a variety of genres, that I’m excited about, and you may be as well. Let’s get started….

Let There Be Wonder – Matt Redman

Let There Be Wonder is worship leader, singer/songwriter Matt Redman’s fourteenth album, and first since 2017’s Glory Song. Redman has given us worship classics like “10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)” “The Heart of Worship” and “Blessed Be Your Name”. The new album was produced by Jacob Sooter and Joshua Silverberg, and was recorded live in front of more than 1,000 people at a California church. Redman wrote all of the songs with a variety of collaborators. This is the first really good album that I’ve heard of 2020, and is sure to make it onto my “Favorites” list for the year.

Changes – Justin Bieber

Justin Bieber? Why? I’m including his new album here because of his recent openness about his Christian faith. I’m looking forward to how that comes through in his music.

To be released February 14.

American Standard – James Taylor
James Taylor’s next project with be an album of 14, 20th century standards with stripped down arrangements, recalling his early work. The first song released was “Teach Me Tonight”.

To be released February 28

Go – John Schlitt
Go, the latest solo project by John Schlitt, the former lead singer of Petra and Head East has been available in a digital format only through the artist’s website.

The CD will be available February 28.

Alive & Breathing – Matt Maher

Over the past several months, Matt Maher has released four EPs. Each EP featured three songs, a combination of new songs, versions of songs that Maher has written for other artists but hasn’t recorded himself, live versions of some of Maher’s previous songs. This release includes all of the music on those EPs, in addition to one additional song, “Joyful Noise”.

To be released March 6.

Restoration – Lecrae

This will be Lecrae’s first solo album since 2017’s All Things Work Together, which included the single “I’ll Find You” with Tori Kelly.

To be released in March.

TBD – Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

Bruce Springsteen has said that he has written songs for an upcoming album with the E Street Band. Let’s hope that we see that album (and tour) in 2020.

These are 9 new and upcoming albums that I’m excited about. What new music are you looking forward to this year?
