National Leaders in Celebrate Recovery coming to Normal

The Victory Christian Center will be hosting a few national leaders from the Celebrate Recovery movement at their next meeting Tuesday, October 22. Mac and Mary Owen will be giving their testimony that night along with special guest, Travis Thrasher, who wrote the book Home Run (based on the hit Christian movie released earlier this year). Mac/Mary and Travis will be doing book signings after the testimony that night. Travis co-authored Mac and Mary’s new book “Never Let Go”. For additional information about the Owens, see below:

Mary and Mac Owen are National Leaders in Celebrate Recovery and have been working together in recovery for over 25 years. They have shared their testimony 120 times in the past 4 years to over 48,000 people (in church, Celebrate Recovery seminars & meetings, rehabs, prisons, and festivals). They are sought-after speakers since sharing their testimony several years ago at the Celebrate Recovery Summit at Saddleback Church in front of 3,600 leaders from around the world.

High school sweethearts from West Monroe, Louisiana, they have been married since 1976 and have three children ages 38, 34 & 29 years old and now ten grandchildren ranging in ages from 12 to 1 month old. In 2012 they decided to sell their house in West Monroe and had it turned into a recovery house for addicts. They then moved to Colorado where two of their children’s families live.

You may recognize Mac from a couple episodes of the hit TV series Duck Dynasty as he is actually one of the original Duck Men. He and Mary are old friends with the Duck Commander Phil Robertson and his wife Miss Kay. And Mary actually has a niece on the show, that’s Korie Robertson, Willie Robertson’s wife!

Inspired by daily lunchtime readings of The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis, we know Travis Thrasher best as the author of the book, Home Run, based on the movie released earlier this year. More recently, Travis co-authored Mac and Mary’s new book, Never Let Go which chronicles their life story.

• Jars of Clay lead singer/songwriter Dan Haseltine has a new side project called The Hawks in Paris. Their full-length debut Freaks will be released October 29. An EP is available from NoiseTrade featuring four exclusive mixes and outtakes from the band. The Hawk in Paris is also comprised of producer/writer Matthew Bronlewee (Paul Van Dyke, Selena Gomez), and producer/writer Jeremy Bose (The Band Perry, Amy Grant, Sugar + The Hi-Lows). The Hawk in Paris formed when three college friends reunited after 10 years and explored sounds outside the realm of their day jobs. The trio has created an electronically laced album influenced by 80s-synth and early 90s trip hop. Freaks draws from pioneers of electronic music such as Massive Attack, Kraftwerk, Portishead and finds inspiration in 80s-synth groups including Eurythmics and Depeche Mode. Modern day influences include M83, The Postal Service, and Gotye. The group previously released a seven-song EP, His + Hers, in 2012. To download the EP, go to http://noisetrade.com/thehawkinparis

From the book “Matthew Henry’s Method for Prayer”:
We will recount the steadfast love of the LORD, the praises of the LORD, according to all that the LORD has granted us, and the great goodness to the house of Israel that he has granted them according to his compassion, according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
