Father in Heaven,
As we begin this day sitting on our patio, the sun is just starting to rise over the trees and the birds are singing. In the distance, I can hear a dog occasionally barking, while our dog lays nearby. I can feel the humidity already in the air as we go through these “dog days of summer”, but I truly do love the warmth that summer brings.
Father I am so thankful for this new summer day. I don’t know what this day will bring, but You do, and in that I take comfort. As Matt Redman sings:
The sun comes up, it’s a new day dawning
It’s time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes
“10,000 Reasons (Bless the Lord)”
Each day you are faithful to provide us new morning mercies:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
(Lamentations 3:22-23)
As my mind wanders on this early summer morning, it’s easy to focus on myself and my issues. But Father, please help me to take my mind off of myself and focus on others. Others who are facing health issues, perhaps an upcoming surgery or medical tests, either themselves or a loved one. I pray also for those who need to find a job. I pray that you would provide just the right one for them. I thank you for the rain we have received that has returned our lawns to green and pray for just the right amount of rain for the nearby farmer’s crops.
I pray for those that have been enduring the recording setting temperatures this summer. Others have been hit with incredible flooding, or had their homes damaged by destructive storms. It’s easy to see the images and not be moved. I pray for all who have been impacted.
I pray for those who are enjoying a family vacation trip. Please give them safe travels and good health as they make special memories.
In just a few months, it will be too cold to sit outside and pray. Thank you for your creation and the blessing of a peaceful summer morning. Give me the strength to serve you well today.
I pray in Jesus’ name,
Amen
