Apps are becoming more and more popular. I use a few on a daily basis, and the last three conferences I’ve attended – Sing!, Ligonier National Conference and the Gospel Coalition National Conference – have all used a helpful app designed to increase the experience for the conference attendees. Here are my favorite Christian apps that I use:
Ligonier. My favorite app is from Ligonier Ministries. I’m amazed at the amount of free content that is included on the app. The app includes:
- Daily Renewing Your Mind broadcasts
- Daily videos and devotional readings
- Ligonier Conference messages
- Popular articles from Tabletalk magazine
- Posts from the Ligonier blog
- More than 50 free teaching series, including The Holiness of God and Chosen by God
The app includes the entire ESV edition of the Bible as well as a daily reading plan. If you have purchased any Ligonier teaching series, they are added to the “My Learning Library” section of the app. And there are many other features of the app.
Covenant Theological Seminary. I graduated from Covenant Seminary in 2014 with a MATS (Masters of Theological Studies) degree. The best feature of this app are the Covenant Seminary courses that you can listen to. Some of my favorite courses from Scotty Smith, David Calhoun, Jerram Barrs, Dan Doriani, and Robert Peterson are included. The app includes the entire ESV edition of the Bible as well as a daily reading plan.
Truth for Life. This app includes the daily bible teaching from Alistair Begg, as well as the daily devotional taken from the new edition of Morning and Evening by Charles Spurgeon, which was revised and updated by Begg. The app also features a one-year bible reading plan, and a searchable archive of Begg’s sermons and the daily devotional readings.
Grace to You. This app includes thousands of audio and video sermons from John MacArthur. It also includes daily devotionals, a “Bible Q&A” with MacArthur and blog posts.
Albert Mohler. Required listening for me each weekday morning is Albert Mohler’s excellent program The Briefing, which I usually listen to via this app. Also included on the app are his essays, his program Thinking in Public, and his sermons. The app also includes a feature where you can call and leave a question for Dr. Mohler.
The Gospel Coalition. This app includes a large amount of content from the Gospel Coalition, including blogs (Scotty Smith, Kevin DeYoung, etc.) and a large amount of media (audio and video), from Gospel Coalition conferences, conversations and podcasts.
RefNet. RefNet (Reformation Network), is an outreach of Ligonier Ministries. It is a 24-hour Christian internet radio featuring biblical preaching and teaching. RefNet includes:
- Preaching and teaching from trustworthy evangelical teachers and preachers such as R.C. Sproul, John MacArthur, Alistair Begg and others.
- Bible readings from the Old and New Testaments
- Daily news briefs so you stay current with the day’s headlines
- Sacred music
- Dramatic audio theatre for family entertainment and encouragement
- Audiobooks
ESV Bible. The recently updated ESV Bible app includes the entire ESV edition of the Bible as well as over 30 free reading plans and devotionals from Paul Tripp, Jen Wilkin, Kevin DeYoung, Nancy Guthrie, and many others within the app.
These are my favorite Christian apps. What would you add to this list?
